Excursions Itinerary 2018

Our location in Norcia, Italy, allows us to integrate multiple exciting excursions into our two-week program. This summer, our plan is to spend one good day in Orvieto, and if there is time to make a small trip to Cascia.

Since these excursions are optional, the cost is separate from the program itself - typically, plan on about 20-30 euros for each trip.

Orvieto is a gorgeous medieval town, which dates back to pre-Roman times. It is important to our study, for it is here that Thomas wrote his commentary on Job. We will arrange private transportation from Norcia to Orvieto for a day trip during our Saturday excursion.

In the past, we have visited these beautiful places!

Panorama of Assisi
Assisi is known and loved as the home of St. Francis and St. Clare. It is about an hour and a half from Norcia, so a trip there takes the better part of a day. We can arrange transportation and offer suggestions for sightseeing, you should do some research beforehand and come prepared with an idea of what you want to do and see.

Cascia is only 20 or 30 minutes away by bus. It's a small town, and so we typically spend just a few hours there before heading back to Norcia for dinner. The town is most famous as the home of St. Rita of Cascia, a 15th century Augustinian nun, whose in-corrupt body can be viewed in the basilica. She is a very well beloved saint and a special patroness for impossible causes.

In addition to St. Rita herself, there is an amazing relic of a eucharistic miracle that is preserved in the crypt below the basilica. In the 14th century, there was a priest who negligently placed a consecrated host between the pages of his breviary when going to administer Communion to a sick man in his home. When he opened the pages, he found that the host had bled causing it to stick to the pages. One of the blood stained pages is preserved and visible for veneration in Cascia.
